Re-launched the global inflight magazine for first and business class on Emirates Airlines. Leading a complete redesign and change of direction, I replaced traditional business stories with articles and longform features, technology, culture and fashion and design. I also introduced a Living section to the magazine covering fashion, style, food and luxury.
DEPUTY EDITOR, ESQUIRE MAGAZINE – Aug 2009 – AUG 2015
Launched the Middle East edition of Esquire. Wrote on topics including style, food, TV, film, travel, sport and culture. Responsible for putting magazine together under budget from flatplan to production. Wrote three Esquire watch books, substantial publications that brought in over $350k in revenue, as well as working on the bi-annual Big Black Book of fashion and style. Wrote and edited the Esquire.me website including some of its highest viewed stories. During this time I also wrote regular columns for Grazia and Cosmopolitan.
DEPUTY EDITOR, MEN’S FITNESS – July 2008 – Aug 2009
Launched Men’s Fitness magazine. Writing included interviews such as Daniel Craig, Evangeline Lilly, John Barnes to features on health and nutrition as well as adventure and lifestyle pieces. Editor of Men’s Essential Guides (Dubai and Abu Dhabi) covering men’s lifestyle, dining, fashion, etc. Both compiled with no budget.

Launched Dubai’s first weekly magazine for men. Writing cover stories and features (sport, food, travel, film, TV, etc), commissioned journalists, put together men’s fashion pages

Weekly food critic for the national tabloid, reviewing restaurants from fine dining to street food; restaurants attributed significant changes in revenue to my column, which was the most widely read food column in the Middle East.

Editor of a weekly lifestyle magazine. I wrote articles ranging from celebrity interviews (Uri Geller, Jordan, Howard Marks, etc) to news features on topics such as the heroin route from Afghanistan to Jersey and British soldiers fighting in the Gulf. As well as writing, I was responsible for proof reading, sub-editing, picture research helping with page layout and co-ordinating freelance writers. All of this was done on a very tight budget.

ONLINE JOURNALIST, SKY SPORTS – Jan 2000 – May 2003
Online football journalist for Optaindex.com and Planetfootball.com for whom I wrote news and articles and maintained the website. Generated football statistics and stories for various media, including national newspapers (The Sun, The Mirror, Times, Guardian) and Sky Sports news channel. Reported on matches for ESPN and ran the office on a Saturday, which involved managing a team of 10 freelance reporters against tight deadlines. Co-wrote three Opta yearbooks and contributed to two other football books.
PROMOTER, MOKSHA RECORDS – Oct 1999 – Jan 2000
Responsible for marketing and A&R at the small independent record label. Arranged gigs, promotional activities, got a small relatively unknown bands onto Jools Holland and sorted out artwork for future albums – all on a very tight budget. Helped develop the band Kosheen, picking tracks for singles and the album. Promoted and organised events and gigs.

Record plugger promoting bands including Oasis, Primal Scream and The Chemical Brothers. Arranged interviews for bands at radio stations, pushing to get airplay for records.
REPORTER, JERSEY EVENING POST – various work from 1991 – 1999
News reporting, business writing, feature articles and sports journalism. Interviews ranged from local politicians to world champion surfers and Prof. Stephen Hawking.
MARKETING INTERN, LONDON RECORDS – May 1999
Work placement at London Records in the PR and Marketing Department. Created promotional campaigns for bands such as The Brand New Heavies, The Happy Mondays and Shack. This involved dealing with artists, organising guestlists for gigs, helping choose treatments for videos and helping create launch parties for artists.
RADIO INTERN, BBC RADIO ONE – Apr 1999
Intern on Lamacq Live and The Evening session. Production assistant for the show, mixing levels for broadcast as well as editing a Star Wars documentary for the BBC radio departments.
